Franciszek (Frank) Zawada, 1918 (darkened to show his face better). He'd changed his first name to Frank so that the mining bosses had a name they could pronounce...later, several of his children would change their last names to 'Wade' and 'Wades' in order to avoid being branded a Polack troublemaker, so they could find work downstate and out of state. It was very anti-immigrant through the 1920's in the United States.
